TRADING SECRETS

BY RACHAEL ECKLES

Our time was cut short, though, and perhaps a love like ours is not meant to last. Know that we were the lucky ones.

Rachael Eckles

SYNOPSIS:

Celeste Donovan, a high-powered finance executive, seems to have it all–the penthouse apartment, the supermodel physique with a mathematician mind, and a trail of beautiful men she has loved and left behind.

But when her boyfriend Theodore is killed in a mysterious accident, she discovers Omar, her abusive ex she had hoped would never resurface, is behind his death.

Now she’s caught in a game of cat and mouse, trying to anticipate Omar’s next move, as she realizes he will stop at nothing to get to her. She sets out alone on a whirlwind journey to entrap him, determined to put an end to Omar’s destruction.

Soon Celeste is thrust in the middle of the largest financial scandal in decades. This time, however, powerful government officials are in bed with some of the world’s most dangerous men.

When she discovers that those she thought she knew best are involved in a secret society warring with Omar and his co conspirators, she must decide how far she will go to avenge Theodore’s death and whether she is willing to risk her own life to save everyone she loves.

MY THOUGHTS:

This is a well-written and engaging book. It was a bit hard for me to get into the story at first and there are many dull moments, especially when the characters talk about their business in the financial world which is something I don’t feel interested about…at all. It was well paced and I really loved the ending because I wasn’t expecting it at all.

WHAT I LIKED:

The strength of the main character Celeste is something to admire. I don’t know many things about the financial world and how competitive and sometimes dangerous it might be so I believe Celeste had to be a strong and fierce woman in order to leave her mark in that world. Also, she was able to move on from the horrible assault she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend.

The pleasant surprise at the end of the book had me smiling. I’m terrible at guessing how books end and in this one I was so convinced and sad about a situation with the character that I was so glad I was wrong in the end.

Theodore was a sweet character. Yes he sounded too perfect to be true but well, it is one of the advantages of reading fiction, you can create perfect people. He was caring, lovely and very brave. I really liked him.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

The beginning is a bit hard to get into. I know nothing of the financial world and it’s not something that interests me so it can be a bit boring to read about those parts.

Celeste’s friends were so empty in my opinion, there was no depth in their personalities. It sounded like they were only there in order to fill some space and create Celeste’s dialogues.

The rape scene was horrifying. It was really hard to read this part and I was glad when it was over.

CONCLUSION:

Beware this book contains violence and sexual assault that might trigger some readers.

Overall it’s a good thriller that will keep you engaged.
