My Review
I figured it would be a real challenge for Sarah J Maas to surpass the giant perfect story of A Court of Mist and Fury. That book was perfect to me so I was dreading this one.
This book starts right after the previous one ended and now Feyre is a spy in the Spring Court. Between feeling the emptiness for being away from her mate and her duty, Feyre stops at nothing to spread doubt between Spring Court’s subjects.
This story had everything. It is about war indeed but Maas describes perfectly the squabbles between the enemies and the allies. The Night Court tries to bring allies to stop Hybern while dealing with its own issues inside their court. Nesta and Elain are newly Fae and while Feyre had a huge help from Rhysand to recover from her depression and acceptance for being Fae, I think Nesta and Elain have a much rougher path. Elain suffers greatly and shuts completely. She was to marry soon and now she lost everything and gained a supposed mate she didn’t know at all and couldn’t accept him. My heart bled for Lucien because I always cared for him, he’s such a lovable character and suffered so much already and now he has to stand by and watch his mate completely disregard him. He deserves better, way better.
Nesta is in pain as well but she hides it very well and her first priority is Elain, it has always been Elain. Her banter with Cassian continues so it’s more than obvious that they will be together, mates or not.
I loved to read about Feyre’s evolution from being the fierce human girl that suffered and died to save Tamlin, to then being swallowed by sadness and depression so she could rise to her full power and happiness and now I see she’s in her element. It’s like she was born to be High Lady of the Night Court. She truly belongs there. Her deep connection with the inner circle is marvellous.
I’m so angry at Tamlin I can’t barely express it in words but, despite his actions and words, I know he loves Feyre and has become blind due to that love. Despite everything he said and done, I hope he finds his happy ending. Maybe with Elain? I always pictured them together, I don’t know. I just really don’t want Lucien with her (I like him too much) and definitely not Azriel. I want someone way more fierce for him, not a delicate flower like Elain that needs to be held all the time.
The ending of this book was brutal and heart-wrenching but it was amazing. I think it would be perfect if Amren didn’t come back. I love the inner circle, I do but do they all need to have happy endings? I mean, it’s war and somehow all of them live through it. I just think she could have stayed dead. That is the only negative point I have about this book.

Quotes
“I see all of you, Rhys. And there is not one part that I do not love with everything I am.”
“Night Triumphant- and the Stars Eternal.”
“Why should I be scared of an oversized bat who likes to throw temper tantrums?”
“Nesta looked at the king with death twining around his hands, then down at Cassian. And covered Cassian’s body with her own. Cassian went still – then his hand slid over her back. Together. They’d go together.”
“Feyre Archeron,’ the Suriel said again, gazing at the leafy canopy, the sky peeking through it. A painful inhale. ‘A request.’ I leaned close. ‘Anything.’ Another rattling breath. ‘Leave this world…a better place than how you found it.’
“Be happy, Feyre.”
Rhys slid his hands into his pockets. “I figure it’s time for the world to know who really has the largest wingspan.” Cassian laughed, and even Azriel smiled. Mor gave me a look that had me biting my lip to keep from howling.”
“Someone fish out dear Amren before she catches a cold.”
“I just…Leave a note. Or tell me next time.’ ‘Would you have let me go if I had?’ ‘I do not LET you do anything.’ He tilted my face up, Mor and Azriel looking away. ‘You are your own person, you make your own choices. But we are mates– I am yours, and you are mine. We do not let each other do things, as if we dictate the movements of each other. But…I might have insisted I go with you More for my own mental well-being, just to know you were safe.”
