Plot Summary

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

My Review

I have had this book on my shelf since 2020. Did you ever pick a up book that you had for a long time and then thought about beating yourself to death because of how stupid you were? Well, that was me after I read it.

Scarlett Dragna is engaged to a count she never met before, but she can’t wait to marry him so she can free herself and her sister from the claws of their abusive father. Every year Scarlett writes a letter to the Master of Caraval in the hopes he brings his magical show to Tristan. She never received an answer until now.

The beginning of the book was a bit weird for me because it’s so different from my usual reading choices but as soon as Scarlett, Donatella and Julian arrived at Caraval the book really picked up its pace and I couldn’t put it down.

Caraval is a five-day performance in which a few lucky people in the audience participate. It’s only a game…or so the players are told. But as the time passes the participants realise something much darker is happening during the game.

This story is very mysterious and I couldn’t even guess what was coming. The ending as a huge plot twist that had me shocked.

At first I couldn’t connect with Scarlett but as the game went on the reader sees a very different Scarlett so the character development is spot on!

This book is full of magic, intrigue and a splash of romance.

All in all this story completely engulfed me, I loved it so much that I went right for the second.

Sinopse:

Scarlett foi informada de que tudo o que acontece durante o Caraval é apenas um espectáculo elaborado. No entanto, ela envolve-se num jogo de amor, desgosto e magia. E quer Caraval seja real ou não, Scarlett deve encontrar Tella antes que as cinco noites do jogo terminem ou um perigoso efeito dominó de consequências será desencadeado, e sua amada irmã desaparecerá para sempre.

A Minha Opinião:

Tenho este livro na minha estante desde 2020. Alguma vez pegaram num livro que já tinham há muito tempo e depois pensaram em dar com a cabeça na parede por terem sido tão estúpidos? Bem, foi o que aconteceu comigo depois de o ter lido.

Scarlett Dragna está noiva de um conde que nunca conheceu, mas não vê a hora de casar com ele para poder libertar-se a si e à irmã das garras do pai abusivo. Todos os anos, Scarlett escreve uma carta ao Mestre de Caraval na esperança de que ele traga o seu espectáculo mágico a Tristan. Até agora, nunca recebeu uma resposta.

O início do livro foi um pouco estranho para mim, porque é muito diferente das minhas escolhas habituais de leitura, mas assim que Scarlett, Donatella e Julian chegaram a Caraval, o livro ganhou ritmo e não o consegui largar.

Caraval é um espectáculo de cinco dias em que participam algumas pessoas sortudas do público. É apenas um jogo… ou pelo menos é o que dizem aos jogadores. Mas à medida que o tempo passa, os participantes apercebem-se de que algo muito mais sombrio está a acontecer durante o jogo.

Esta história é muito misteriosa e eu nem sequer conseguia adivinhar o que estava para vir. O final tem uma grande reviravolta que me deixou chocada.

No início não consegui relacionar-me com a Scarlett, mas à medida que o jogo avançava o leitor vê uma Scarlett muito diferente, por isso o desenvolvimento da personagem é perfeito!

Este livro está cheio de magia, intriga e um toque de romance.

Em suma, esta história envolveu-me completamente, adorei-a tanto que fui logo buscar o segundo.
