I wasn’t with Finn on that August night. But I should’ve been. It was raining, of course. And he and Sylvie were arguing as he drove down the slick road. No one ever says what they were arguing about. Other people think it’s not important. They do not know there is another story. The story that lurks between the facts. What they do not know-the cause of the argument-is crucial.

My Review

I went into this book after seeing it everywhere and seeing posts of people saying how heartbreaking it was and how they cried a lot. I can say I felt absolutely nothing.

From the beginning of the story you already know how it will end, I mean that title says it all and from the first page you also know how it will happen. So there is a shock factor, there isn’t a gasp of surprise.

I couldn’t connect with the writing, it was too slow and nothing exciting happened. I didn’t like Autumn, she seemed too childish, I mean, who wears a tiara everyday? Even for school? She wanted too much attention on herself and I really couldn’t stand her. I barely had time to like Finny since his presence was always from afar, they barely interacted with each other, just a few words through the book. Their most intense interaction was towards the end.

The tragic end that we knew was going to happen from the beginning was very rushed, it was really at the end of the book. Autumn’s reaction after the accident was very rushed.

I found this book very boring and didn’t quite understand the hype around it. I had to force myself to finish it.

Eu não estava com o Finn naquela noite de Agosto. Mas devia ter estado. Estava a chover, claro. E ele e a Sylvie estavam a discutir enquanto ele conduzia pela estrada escorregadia. Nunca ninguém diz sobre o que estavam a discutir. As outras pessoas acham que não é importante. Não sabem que há outra história. A história que se esconde entre os factos. O que eles não sabem – a causa da discussão – é crucial.

Por isso, deixem-me contar-vos…

A Minha Opinião

Tive de ler este livro depois de o ter visto em todo o lado e de ter visto publicações de pessoas a dizer que era de partir o coração e que tinham chorado muito. Posso dizer que não senti absolutamente nada.

Desde o início da história que já se sabe como vai acabar, aliás, o título diz tudo e durante a primeira página também se sabe como vai acontecer. Portanto, não há um factor de choque.

Não consegui sentir a escrita, foi demasiado lenta e não aconteceu nada de excitante. Não gostei da Autumn, pareceu-me demasiado infantil, quer dizer, quem é que usa uma tiara todos os dias? Mesmo para a escola? Ela queria demasiada atenção para si própria e eu não a suportava. Mal tive tempo para gostar do Finny, uma vez que a sua presença era sempre de longe, eles mal interagiam um com o outro, apenas algumas palavras ao longo do livro. A interacção mais intensa entre eles foi no final.

O final trágico que sabíamos que ia acontecer desde o início foi muito apressado, foi mesmo no fim do livro. A reacção de Autumn após o acidente foi muito apressada.

Achei este livro muito aborrecido e não percebi muito bem o entusiasmo em torno dele. Tive de me forçar a acabar o livro.
